In our office, we often talk about the 3 T’s of subluxation, also known as the 3 T’s of stress. These 3 T’s have a profound effect on our body and our health. In some capacity we may experience each one every day of our lives. This is why upkeep of our nervous system and structure is so important.
The first ‘T’ is thoughts. This category represents emotional stress. Events such as the loss of a loved one, financial stress, or stress at work can all play a part in our health. Constant negative emotional input and output from the brain can lead to long term health issues. These are the type of emotions that put us in a ‘fight or flight’ (stressed) state, and do not allow the body to function properly.
The second ‘T’ is the most obvious one. When traumas occur we often realize the toll that they take on the body. Car accidents, sports injuries, and slips or falls all fall into this category. However, many of us do not realize the small, repetitive traumas that we encounter on a daily basis. Some sit hunched over at a computer all day, some lift boxes all day, and some drive truck. These small repetitive traumas add up and have a major long term effect on our bodies.
The last type of trauma that often goes unreported is birth trauma. The birthing process is not only traumatic on mom, but baby as well. With the twisting and pulling of the baby’s head and neck, we see misalignments from birth. Our children can suffer from colic, ear infections, trouble breastfeeding, and constipation. By relieving pressure off of the upper neck and the brain stem, many little ones in our office have gotten relief from these symptoms.
The final ‘T’ is toxins. Toxins are all around us in today’s world. From the food we eat, to products we use on our body, to the polluted air that we breathe. All of these chemicals form a neurological insult on the body to which the nervous system must constantly respond. If the ability of the nervous system to adapt begins to falter, some of these chemicals can initiate disease processes in the body. This is one of the major reasons it is vitally important to get checked on a regular basis by a well trained chiropractor.
